Quick update - we have reached our target and construction has begun on a memorial to all miners. It was agreed by members at the community council that we would instruct the building of a memorial in the style of an old miner's lamp. It will be situation outside the new Beacon on Hunterfield Road and we hope that it will be ready by the end of October when it will be officially unveiled.
Thank you to all the groups and individuals who have contributed and supported this venture and we really hope that it is appreciated.

It was felt that as an ex mining community there was nothing to recognise the efforts of all those involved in the 4 pits which were operating at one time in Gorebridge. This is something which has been addressed in all other local mining communities and it was agreed that Gorebridge Community Council would lead a project to arrange a memorial.
A fundraising project is underway to enable the community council to arrange for a memorial to acknowledge all mine workers who died in Gorebridge pits. we have set up a just giving page or if you prefer a cheque payable to Gorebridge community Council can be posted to Gorebridge Community Council, 19 Louis Braille Way, Gorebridge EH23 4LD.
We would like to thank everyone in advance of any donations you are able to make.
